The Los Angeles Dodgers placed right-hander Kenta Maeda on the 10-day injured list Friday because of a left thigh contusion.
Maeda fouled a ball off his thigh in Wednesday’s game against the visiting San Diego Padres, when he allowed three hits over 6 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out 12 and walking none. He also drove in the game’s only runs in a 2-0 victory.
Maeda (5-2, 3.51 ERA) likely will miss just one turn in the rotation.
The Dodgers are lined up to start Rich Hill, Walker Buehler, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Clayton Kershaw over the next four games and would be able to get through their current road trip with just those starters. On Friday, the Dodgers were set to begin an eight-game journey over 10 days to Cincinnati, Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh.
The Dodgers recalled outfielder Kyle Garlick and infielder Matt Beaty from Triple-A Oklahoma City. On Thursday, the team activated left-hander Caleb Ferguson from the injured list, while optioning right-hander JT Chargois and catcher Rocky Gale to Oklahoma City.
