Tony Gonsolin is finally set to make his 2023 major league debut, as the Los Angeles Dodgers activated the right-hander on Wednesday and optioned right-hander Andre Jackson to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The Dodgers are scheduled to send Gonsolin to the mound in Wednesday’s middle game of a three-game series at Pittsburgh.
Gonsolin has been on the mend since he rolled his ankle during a fielding drill at spring training. He started the season on the injured list then had a three-inning rehab outing with Oklahoma City last week.
Right-hander Michael Grove took over Gonsolin’s spot in the rotation to start the season. He went 0-1 with an 8.44 ERA in four starts before he went down with a groin strain.
Gonsolin, 28, was an All-Star for the first time last season, when he went 16-1 with a 2.21 ERA in 24 starts. He missed a month late in the season with a right forearm strain. In four seasons with the Dodgers, he is 26-6 with a 2.51 ERA in 59 appearances (51 starts).
Jackson, 26, had a 7.94 ERA in five outings over two separate stints with the Dodgers this season. In 12 appearances over the last three seasons with Los Angeles, he is 0-1 with a 4.13 ERA.
