Deandre Johnson is going home.
The defensive end/outside linebacker took to Twitter on Saturday to announce he’s transferring from Tennessee to Miami for his senior season.
Johnson, who starred at Miami Southridge Senior High School, tied for the lead for the Volunteers with 4 1/2 sacks this season.
At 6-3, 255 pounds, Johnson can play defensive end or outside linebacker. As a junior in 2019, he appeared in all 13 games with two starts at outside linebacker, finishing with 13 tackles, 4 1/2 for loss, 2 1/2 sacks, four hurries and a forced fumble for the Vols.
The Hurricanes are in need of edge rushers after both of their defensive ends, Jaelan Phillips and Quincy Roche, declared for the 2021 NFL Draft and sat out Miami’s loss to Oklahoma State in the Cheez-It Bowl earlier this week. Tennessee struggled this season, finishing 3-7.
Johnson played in 40 games for the Volunteers, including nine starts.
In high school, Johnson led Southridge to the Class 8A state title before enrolling at Tennessee in the spring of 2017.
