The Arizona Diamondbacks placed starting pitcher Luke Weaver on the 10-day disabled list and sent him back to Phoenix for an MRI exam Monday after he left Sunday’s start with right forearm tightness.
Weaver had allowed one run through five innings Sunday against the San Francisco Giants but showed discomfort after giving up a single to Buster Posey to start the sixth inning.
“Just felt a little tightness in the forearm,” Weaver told reporters afterward. “I wanted to just really be smart about it. It was a day where it was cold out, the conditions weren’t perfect and kind of the way the ballgame was shaping up, I just wanted to be smart and not do anything stupid.”
Weaver, acquired in the offseason from the St. Louis Cardinals in the Paul Goldschmidt trade, is 4-3 with a 3.03 ERA in 11 starts for the Diamondbacks. The 25-year-old right-hander has allowed 55 hits and walked 14 in 62 1/3 innings, striking out 68.
Arizona recalled right-handed reliever Jimmie Sherfy from Triple-A Reno. Sherfy has appeared in four games for the D-backs this season, allowing one run in 8 1/3 innings. He has allowed 11 hits, striking out eight and walking one.
Arizona opened a four-game series with the Colorado Rockies on Monday in Denver.
