Hoping to get Carl Edwards Jr. back on track again, the Chicago Cubs optioned the right-hander back to Triple-A Iowa on Monday, according to multiple reports
Edwards is being sent back to Iowa for the second time this season.
He gave up a run on a hit and a walk after a third of an inning Sunday against the San Diego Padres. The outing left him with a 5.87 ERA in 20 appearances this season.
Edwards, 27, who has also dealt with a thoracic strain this season, has fared well in a small sample size at Triple-A. He was 2-0 earlier this season in 11 outings with a 1.54 ERA.
In five seasons with the Cubs, Edwards is 9-8 with two saves and has a 3.30 ERA in 192 appearances. He had a career-best 2.60 ERA last season in 58 appearances.
The Cubs recalled right-hander Rowan Wick. The former catcher and outfielder had a 3.86 ERA in five appearances with the Cubs earlier this season. He has a 5.28 ERA in 15 career appearances with the Padres and Cubs.
