Cubs’ Baez to undergo MRI on thumb

Chicago Cubs star Javier Baez missed his fourth straight game on Friday due to a left thumb injury and is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam on Saturday, according to reports.

Baez nearly returned to action on Thursday before being a late scratch. So with progress being slow, the Cubs are hoping the MRI will provide some answers.

Addison Russell was in the lineup at shortstop in place of Baez for Friday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Baez, a two-time All-Star, is batting .281 with 29 homers and 85 RBIs in 133 games.
