The Chicago Cubs acquired left-hander Derek Holland from the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations, the team announced Friday.
Holland was designated for assignment by the Giants on Sunday. He is 2-4 with a 5.90 ERA in 31 appearances (seven starts) this season.
Chicago designated left-hander Tim Collins for assignment to open up a roster spot.
Despite his poor overall marks this season, Holland has limited left-handed hitters to a .182 batting average with just one extra-base hit among the 14 hits surrendered.
Holland is 78-77 with a 4.51 ERA in 275 career appearances (221 starts) with the Texas Rangers (2009-16), Chicago White Sox (2017) and Giants.
Collins, 29, had a 3.12 ERA in nine appearances for the Cubs.
