Colorado State hires Addazio as head coach

Former Boston College coach Steve Addazio was hired Wednesday as the new coach at Colorado State, the school announced.

Addazio agreed to a five-year, $8 million deal, according to the school. His base salary will be $1.5 million in 2020 and increase by $50,000 each year.

Addazio, 60, went 44-44 in seven seasons at Boston College before being dismissed on Dec. 1. The Eagles were 6-6 in the 2019 regular season.

He also spent two seasons at Temple and has a 57-55 overall record in nine seasons as a head coach.

Addazio also served on Florida’s staff from 2005-10, working under Urban Meyer. The former Ohio State head coach and Colorado State assistant from 1990-95 reportedly assisted Colorado State in its search and had a role in choosing candidates.

“Colorado State University is a world-class institution, and Fort Collins is an incredible city to live in and to be able to recruit to,” Addazio said in a statement. “Our program will be one built on toughness and passion, and we will work tirelessly to develop men of character to return championship-level football back to Colorado State.”

Colorado State reportedly also considered former Tennessee coach Butch Jones and Ohio State offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson.

Addazio replaces Mike Bobo, who was fired after going 28-35 in five seasons.
