All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey returned to the Carolina lineup on Sunday but suffered a shoulder injury and is considered day-to-day, Panthers coach Matt Rhule said Monday.
NFL Network reported McCaffrey’s status for Week 10 is “very much in doubt.”
McCaffrey was scheduled to have tests done Monday but Rhule declined to say whether he had X-rays or an MRI on the shoulder or what the results were, citing the player’s privacy.
“As of right now he is listed as day-to-day,” Rhule told reporters.
McCaffrey started Sunday at Kansas City, his first game since being placed on injured reserve following Week 2 with an ankle injury. He racked up 151 yards from scrimmage and scored twice in the 33-31 loss to the Chiefs.
With the Panthers trailing by two in the fourth quarter, McCaffrey caught a short pass in the flat near the first-down marker and was ridden to the ground by Chiefs safety Daniel Sorensen. McCaffrey landed hard on his right shoulder, went to the sideline and briefly returned.
He left the game again on the final drive and pointed to his collarbone.
Rhule was not available postgame.
Carolina (3-6) hosts Tampa Bay (6-3) on Sunday afternoon.
