Clemson WR Ross (hip) should play at UNC

Clemson wide receiver Justyn Ross should be ready to play in the No. 1-ranked Tigers’ road game against North Carolina on Saturday after dealing with a minor hip injury, head coach Dabo Swinney said Tuesday.

Ross did not play in Clemson’s win over Charlotte last week, but Swinney said the receiver could have if the team needed him to.

“He’s good,” Swinney told reporters. “He was ready to play last week. He was just a little hampered. A little hip flexor. Just a little tinge of pain in there for him and had been bothering him. He had just kind of been playing through. In fact, we didn’t know about it because that’s just kind of how he is. It just had been bothering him. So we treated him all week and he was feeling better.”

Ross is second on the team with 15 catches for 171 yards and a touchdown while averaging 11.4 yards per reception in three games this season. Tee Higgins leads Clemson (3-0) with 16 catches for 376 yards and two touchdowns. The Tigers rank 14th in total offense with 525 yards per game.

In his 17-game career at Clemson, Ross has 61 receptions for 1,171 yards and is averaging 19.2 yards per catch. During the Tigers’ championship run in wins over Notre Dame and Alabama last season, he had 12 catches for 301 yards and three touchdowns.
