Los Angeles Chargers left tackle Joe Alt is not likely to play in Sunday’s home game against the Washington Commanders, head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters on Wednesday.
Harbaugh said that Alt is doubtful for this week’s game after spraining his right ankle and being carted off the field in last week’s loss at the New York Giants. Harbaugh did not clarify if Alt’s injury could land him on injured reserve and sideline him for a minimum of four games, simply commenting on his status for this week.
“I don’t want to speculate on the degree, but likely not to play this week, and we’ll take it day by day,” Harbaugh said.
Alt, 22, is already the team’s second left tackle of the season, moving from right tackle after two-time Pro Bowler Rashawn Slater sustained a season-ending torn patella tendon in training camp.
With Los Angeles down two starting tackles for much of Sunday’s game, the Giants had 13 hits on Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.
Austin Deculus is listed as the backup left tackle on the Chargers’ online depth chart. The team also signed offensive tackle Foster Sarell to the active roster and offensive tackle Bobby Hart to the practice squad on Wednesday.
