The Atlanta Braves recalled left-hander Sean Newcomb from Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday and optioned right-hander Touki Toussaint to the same affiliate.
Newcomb was demoted earlier this season after posting a 4.38 ERA through three starts and walking eight in just 12 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old was 2-1 with a 2.41 ERA in three starts at Gwinnett.
He went 12-9 with a 3.90 ERA in 31 appearances (30 starts) last season for the Braves.
Atlanta plays a three-game series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers beginning Monday. Newcomb famously came within one strike of a no-hitter against Los Angeles last season, with Chris Taylor’s single spoiling the attempt.
Toussaint, 22, was 2-0 with a 6.35 ERA in three appearances (one start) for the Braves this season. He is 4-1 with a 4.69 ERA in 10 appearances (six starts) over the past two seasons with Atlanta.
