There was a lot of buzz surrounding Monday afternoon’s game between the San Francisco Giants and host Cincinnati Reds.
The first pitch was delayed by 18 minutes after a swarm of bees settled above the backstop screen at Great American Ball Park.
This is at least the third time there has been a bee delay in Cincinnati.
A game against the Philadelphia Phillies on May 11, 1987 was delayed 17 minutes, with Red starter Ted Power getting stung on his hand. The Giants were also involved in a 35-minute delay on April 17, 1976 when bees swarmed into their dugout. Both of those incidents happened at Riverfront Stadium.
