Oakland is keeping KD through the 2021 season.
Athletics slugger Khris Davis signed a contract extension that covers the 2020 and ’21 seasons for a reported total of $33.5 million. Davis was scheduled to become a free agent in November.
“Oakland has been a special place for me since I arrived,” said Davis in a team-issued statement. “I love playing here in front of our fans, and my teammates make this feel like a family. I never hid the fact that I wanted to stay in Oakland because that is how I feel and I’m glad that I can continue to call the city of Oakland my baseball home. This team has a bright future, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
Oakland’s basketball team, the Golden State Warriors, has its own KD — Kevin Durant — to worry about holding onto, but Davis will continue mashing in the Bay Area.
Davis’ 143 home runs since the start of the start of the 2016 season are the most in baseball over that span — 19 more than second-place Giancarlo Stanton.
Davis, acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in a 2016 trade, has a league-leading 10 home runs in 77 at-bats this season. Home runs have become the 31-year-old’s niche, with three consecutive 40-plus homer seasons since joining the A’s.
He hit a career-high 48 homers last season with 123 RBIs and 28 doubles.
