A’s activate OF Piscotty, pick up C Garneau

The Oakland Athletics made a series of roster moves Saturday, including reinstating outfielder Stephen Piscotty from the injured list and claiming catcher Dustin Garneau off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels.

The club optioned infielder Franklin Barreto to Triple-A Las Vegas, designated right-handed pitcher Ryan Dull for assignment and released right-handed pitcher Andrew Triggs.

Piscotty was placed on the 10-day injured list on June 30 because of a right knee sprain. He is hitting .242 with nine home runs and 34 RBIs in 76 games. The 28-year-old had career highs of 27 home runs and 88 RBIs last season, his first with the A’s.

Garneau, 31, was hitting .232 in 28 games with the Angels. The fifth-year veteran is a career .202 hitter with four teams, including a 19-game stint with Oakland in 2017.

Barreto, 23, hit .106 in 17 games with Oakland this season.

Dull, 29, has a 12.00 ERA in nine innings this year.

Triggs, 30, was 3-1 with a 5.23 ERA in nine starts for the A’s. He had been designated for assignment Wednesday after the trade for Cincinnati’s Tanner Roark.
