Outfielder Mike Trout was out of the Los Angeles Angels’ lineup on Sunday with a sore right toe.
He was scheduled to play against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field but was scratched after a pre-game run.
“I’m just trying to maintain the soreness,” Trout told reporters before his trial run. “It’s been sore for a while now. Just trying to see if I can go. It’s still sore, but I want to be out there.”
Trout, 28, started Friday night’s series opener but was pulled in the fifth inning. He made a pinch-hit appearance on Saturday and was removed for a pinch runner after he walked.
The toe issue has affected him for a few weeks, but he had missed just one game prior to this weekend.
Trout, a two-time American League Most Valuable Player, entered Sunday’s action tied with Pete Alonso of the New York Mets for the major league lead in homers with 45. He also has 104 RBIs, seven shy of his career high.
