Alabama DL Ray out for ‘undetermined’ amount of time

Alabama starting defensive end LaBryan Ray is out for an “undetermined” period because of a foot injury, coach Nick Saban said Monday.

“We’re doing some further testing to see what the situation is with his foot,” Saban said at his weekly press conference, adding that Ray will not play this week in a nonconference home game against Southern Miss.

Ray, a junior and first-year starter, suffered the injury during Saturday’s win at South Carolina. AL.com reported Sunday that the injury was “feared to be a long-term and possibly season-ending injury, according to sources.”

Ray has nine tackles, including 1 1/2 for loss and a sack this season for the second-ranked Crimson Tide (3-0).

True freshman Justin Eboigbe has been listed as Ray’s backup. He could become the second true freshman on the Alabama defensive front, joining nose guard DJ Dale.
