6-time Pro Bowl DT Gerald McCoy retires

Six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy announced his retirement Friday after 11 NFL seasons.

McCoy, 35, played his first nine seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2010-18) before spending time with the Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, McCoy registered 59.5 sacks, 153 quarterback hits, 334 tackles (86 for losses) and six forced fumbles in 140 games (139 starts). He made six consecutive Pro Bowls (2012-17) and earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2013 with a career-high 9.5 sacks.

McCoy did not play in the NFL last season. He missed all of 2020 with the Cowboys due to a ruptured right quad and was limited to one game with the Raiders in 2021 due to a left knee injury.
