49ers QB Brock Purdy to start vs. Seahawks

San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy is set to make his second career NFL start in Thursday’s road game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Purdy is officially active for the game.

Purdy was a limited participant in practice all week and was listed as questionable with rib and oblique injuries. He sustained the injuries during the 49ers’ 35-7 romp over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Also active for the Niners are defensive lineman Kerry Hyder Jr. (ankle) and cornerback Ambry Thomas (ankle). Both were listed as questionable.

Also Thursday, the 49ers placed defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway (pectoral) on injured reserve, ending his regular season.

The Niners also promoted CB Janoris Jenkins and WR Willie Snead IV to their active roster from their practice squad for the game.

As expected, Seattle running back Kenneth Walker III is active as is safety Joey Blount (back), who was listed as questionable.

The Seahawks on Thursday also elevated running back Godwin Igwebuike, who is expected to handle kick return duties after gaining 104 yards on three returns in his Seahawks debut last weekend.

Purdy completed 16 of 21 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns versus the Buccaneers. He also rushed for a score for San Francisco (9-4), which could clinch the NFC West title with a win over Seattle (7-6) on Thursday night.

Purdy, 22, was selected with the last overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to earn the title of “Mr. Irrelevant.”

Ridgeway, 28, has 28 tackles and a sack in 12 games (seven starts) this season, his first in San Francisco.
