San Francisco 49ers defensive end Dee Ford was downgraded from questionable to out for Sunday’s game against the host New York Jets.
Ford, who is nursing a neck injury, recorded three tackles while playing on 46 defensive snaps in San Francisco’s 24-20 season-opening loss to the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday.
Defensive end Kerry Hyder is expected to see additional playing time in place of the 29-year-old Ford, who has collected 154 tackles and 11 forced fumbles in 79 career games (43 starts) with the Kansas City Chiefs and 49ers.
Two-time Pro Bowl tight end George Kittle (knee) and cornerback Jason Verrett (hamstring) were ruled out against the Jets (0-1) on Friday. The 49ers also placed cornerback Richard Sherman on injured reserve earlier in the week.
Also on Saturday, the 49ers promoted center Hroniss Grasu from the practice squad.
