2016: A pair of injuries marred an otherwise strong season for Carrasco. He suffered a hamstring injury while covering first base and missed five weeks, and then a broken hand that ended his campaign in mid-September. Overall, his strikeout rate dipped (though it was still exceptional at 9.23 K/9) and his walks held steady.
Forecast: The various projection systems are in lockstep on Carrasco for 2017. The Steamer projections on FanGraphs tab him for a 3.32 ERA, 197 strikeouts and a 1.14 WHIP, while the Bill James Handbook predicts a 3.37 ERA, 193 strikeouts and a 1.16 WHIP. We’re more optimistic: The underrated Carrasco is a potential SP1 if everything breaks right. Highly recommended.
