Does this sound familiar?
Geno Smith named the NRA/Lindy’s Gunslinger of the Week?
If not … it should.
Just two weeks ago, the West Virginia quarterback won the honor with his 429-yard passing performance against James Madison when he completed 87 percent of his passes. If you compare it to the performance against Baylor on Saturday, that other one seemed more like a practice game.
Playing in his first conference game as a member of the Big 12, the Mountaineer senior completed 45 of 51 passes (88 percent) for 656 yards for eight touchdowns. Not only did he not throw an interception against the nationally ranked and undefeated Bears, he hasn’t thrown a pick this season.
In the 70-63 victory in regulation, Smith tied the league record for single-game touchdown passes and put himself atop the early season list of Heisman Trophy frontrunners.
For his efforts, Geno Smith has again been named the NRA/Lindy’s Gunslinger of the Week.
Throughout the 2012 season, the top passing performance in college football each week will be honored with this recognition from the National Rifle Association and Lindy’s Sports. At the end of the season, the NRA/Lindy’s National Gunslinger of the Year will be named.
