Western Kentucky hired Bobby Petrino as its new football coach, USA Today reported Monday.

A press conference is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET to officially announce the hire.

Petrino, 51, replaces Willie Taggart, who left last week to take the South Florida coaching job.

Petrino was fired at Arkansas in April after lying about his relationship with athletic department employee Jessica Dorrell, whom he hired to a job in the football office. He was also involved in a motorcycle accident with Dorrell but told athletic director Jeff Long that he was by himself.

Petrino, who coached the Atlanta Falcons in 2007 before taking the Arkansas job, is 75-26 as a college head coach. His success at Louisville led to his NFL job.
