Clint Trickett will be West Virginia’s starting quarterback for its opener against Alabama in August after recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
Trickett, who sat out during the spring but was still No. 1 on the depth chart at the end of drills, will lead the West Virginia offense into the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Aug. 30.
The Florida State transfer split time at quarterback last year with Paul Millard and Ford Childress.
“Clint is 100 percent healthy and is ready to play,” West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen said. “He worked hard last season and showed a lot of ability and leadership and deserves the chance to lead the team as a senior. He will be our starter.”
Millard appears to be the front-runner for the backup spot behind Trickett heading into fall camp in August. Trickett is a 6-2, 175-pound junior.
The Mountaineers went 4-8 in 2013 and return six players, including big-play wideouts Kevin White, Mario Alford and Daikiel Shorts, to an offense that averaged 411.0 yards per game and 26.3 points per game.
