Week 9 – Drew Mestemaker

Freshman Quarterback Leads Mean Green to Another Win

North Texas football is on a roll this season, having a 7-1 record, 3-1 in the American Athletic Conference with its only loss to USF, which was nationally ranked at the time.

A key reason for the success is Drew Mestemaker, a redshirt freshman quarterback who played for Vandegrift High School in Austin, Texas. He showed again on Saturday his valuye to the Mean Green. His numbers were nothing short of incredible.

Mestemaker completed 37 of 49 passes for 608 yards and four touchdowns. That’s no typographical error. He had 608 passing yards in one game, turning a tight game into a rout.

Charlotte led North Texas early in the third quarter, 20-17. That’s when Mestemaker took over, leading the Mean Green to scoring the final 37 points in the game, racking up 754 yards total offense.

For his performance, Drew Mestemaker has been recognized as the Academy Sports + Outdoors Award, Player of the Week.
