All-Star guard Klay Thompson will be lost to the Golden State Warriors for seven to 10 days with a sprained ankle and miss a matchup on Wednesday night between the two teams that have NBA’s best records.
Neither Thompson nor Atlanta sharpshooter Kyle Korver (broken nose) will be on the floor when the Warriors, who have the best record in the Western Conference, take on the Eastern Conference-leading Hawks.
The Warriors said Thompson will be re-evaluated in seven to 10 days. He was injured Monday night when he landed on the foot of Los Angeles Lakers guard Tarik Black during the Warriors’ 108-105 victory. Thompson returned to the game after having the ankle retaped and had a game-high 26 points.
In 64 games this season, Thompson is avereaging 21.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists and shooting 43.5 percent from 3-point range. His scoring average is up nearly three points from last season.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr indicated that Justin Holiday might start in place of Thompson, who has missed only three games in his four NBA seasons. Other candidates for more playing time are Andre Iguodala and Leandro Barbosa.
