St. Louis right hander Adam Wainwright will get the start against the San Francisco Giants Saturday night in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series.
The Giants previous announced that lefty Madison Bumgarner will start Game 1.
Manager Mike Matheny announced Thursday that Lance Lynn will start Game 2 and will be followed by veteran John Lackey and Shelby Miller.
Despite a balky elbow, Wainwright went 5-0 in September with a 1.38 ERA. Against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the National League Division Series, Wainwright gave up six runs on 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings.
The St. Louis Post Dispatch has reported that Wainwright “has pitched for several months through some tendinitis and discomfort around his right elbow, a condition that caused him to miss a start back in June.”
Bumgarner was magnificent for the Giants in their wild-card win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. He struck out 10 and allowed only four hits in the 8-0 victory.
He also started Game 3 of the NLDS against Washington. His throwing error in that game was the difference, but he has a 2.96 ERA in 52 career playoff innings.
Jake Peavy is expected to face Lynn in Game 2 while Tim Hudson will square off against Lackey in Game 3.
