The Minnesota Vikings officially signed kicker Kai Forbath on Wednesday to replace struggling Blair Walsh.
Forbath, a fifth-year veteran, has made 69 of 82 field goals (84.1 percent) and 124 of 127 extra points (97.6 percent) since October 2012 when he joined the Washington Redskins as a free agent. He was with the Redskins until October 2015 and finished last season with the New Orleans Saints.
Forbath played 41 regular-season games for Washington and 10 games for the Saints, who re-signed him during the offseason but released him in September.
Walsh, who was released Tuesday, missed his fourth extra point of the season in Sunday’s 26-20 loss to the Redskins. The Vikings worked out six kickers last week after Walsh misfired on an extra-point attempt and had a field goal blocked in a 22-16 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions on Nov. 6.
Walsh’s struggles have followed him since he missed wildly on a 27-yard game-winning attempt with 22 seconds remaining in a playoff loss to Seattle in January.
Walsh was 12 of 16 on field-goal attempts and 15 of 19 on extra-point tries for Minnesota (5-4), which has answered a five-game season-opening winning streak with four consecutive losses.
