Minnesota lacks experienced depth at cornerback, but that didn’t stop the Vikings from waiving veteran Antoine Winfield on Tuesday after he refused the team’s request to take a pay cut, ESPN radio reported in Minneapolis.
The move cleared $7.25 million in cap space for the Vikings, who likely will pursue wide receivers and defensive backs in free agency.
Winfield, 35, is still considered to be a strong run defender. He finished the 2012 season with 101 tackles, three interceptions and 12 pass deflections.
