LOS ANGELES — Left fielder Scott Van Slyke hit a walk-off, three-run home run in the ninth inning, lifting the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-3 victory over the Miami Marlins on Monday night at Dodger Stadium.
Van Slyke’s homer, which came off Marlins reliever Steve Cishek (1-3), occurred after Miami left fielder Christian Yelich homered off reliever Yimi Garcia (3-0) in the top of the inning for a 3-2 Miami lead.
Reliever J.P. Howell (2-1) worked one-third of an inning for the win as the Dodgers (21-10) captured their fifth in a row.
Marlins center fielder Marcell Ozuna rallied the Marlins (15-18) from a one-run deficit, burying a solo home run halfway up the pavilion in left-center off Dodgers starter Zack Greinke to tie the score at 1 with one out in the seventh. It was Ozuna’s third home run of the season.
Center fielder Joc Pedersen drove in Van Slyke in the bottom of the inning for a 2-1 Los Angeles lead before Miami rallied in the ninth.
Second baseman Dee Gordon faced the Dodgers for the first time since they traded him to Miami in a multi-player, offseason deal. Gordon went 0-for-4 with a walk. He recorded a defensive gem, though, gloving a grounder by Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal and delivering a behind-the-back throw to first baseman Michael Morse to end the sixth inning.
Second baseman Howie Kendrick, who hit a one-out double over the head of right fielder Giancarlo Stanton, came home on third baseman Justin Turner’s grounder to short for a 1-0 Dodgers lead with two outs in the fourth.
Stanton got some revenge in the fifth. He snagged a line drive by shortstop Jimmy Rollins and doubled off Pederson with a throw to first to end the inning. Stanton’s play also prevented Van Slyke, who led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice by Greinke, from scoring as Morse fielded Stanton’s throw just before Van Slyke touched home plate.
