SAN DIEGO — The Arizona Diamondbacks crowded outfield got a little more jammed Wednesday when Yasmany Tomas was promoted from Triple-A Reno.
The 24-year-old is the Cuban expatriate who the Diamondbacks gave $68.5 million to last winter in a bidding war with several other teams.
The 6-foot-2, 255-pound Tomsas, who is also listed as a third baseman, was 4-for-21 with a double, a homer and three RBIs with Reno. During spring training, Tomas hit .257 with three doubles, a triple, two homers and 12 RBIs in 70 at-bats.
Tomas grounded out as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning Saturday night.
Tomas joins an outfield that already has Ender Inciarte, A.J. Pollock, Mark Trumbo and David Peralta.
