Interest among NFL teams in a trade for Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson is picking up.
According to multiple reports on Wednesday, a number of teams could be willing to discuss a deal with the Titans, but nothing is imminent and the Titans are expected to be patient in entertaining potential offers.
One of the stumbling blocks could be Johnson’s unwillingness to take a pay cut. The 28-year-old Johnson is scheduled to make $8 million in 2014.
Johnson has proved to be a consistent back for the Titans since they picked him in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft. In each of his six seasons, he has rushed for more than 1,000 yards and averaged 290 carries. Last year, though, his yards-per-carry average dipped to a career-low 3.9, raising some concerns about his future.
Johnson rushed for 2,006 yards in 2009, becoming one of only seven players to top 2,000 in a season in NFL history.
