The Detroit Tigers are ready to call up right-handed reliever Jim Johnson from Triple-A Toledo but he wants one more minor league outing, according to the Detroit News.
The Tigers picked up Johnson less than two weeks ago and signed him to a minor league contract. He was released by the Oakland A’s on Aug. 1.
Johnson, a former closer, had a 7.14 ERA in 38 appearances with Oakland before the team let him go. The A’s still owe him his $10 million salary for this year.
Johnson had more than 50 saves in both 2012 and 2013 with the Baltimore Orioles. The A’s traded for Johnson in the offseason but lost his closer job early in the season.
In his most recent minor league outing, Johnson tossed two scoreless, hitless innings Wednesday.
