Detroit veteran Victor Martinez had to leave the Tigers’ spring training game on Monday after suffering a hamstring strain.
The good news for the 37-year-old who has battled various injuries in recent years, is that the strain was diagnosed as only a mild strain.
“I’m good,” Martinez told reporters. “Just felt it right there trying to get to second base.”
Martinez will try to play Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves, but said he might sit out a few more days as a precaution.
Martinez, who is still owed $54 million and signed through 2018, is projected as the Tigers’ cleanup hitter.
Last season, he played in only 120 games and hit a career-low .245
