Tigers exercise option on C Avila

The Detroit Tigers on Monday exercised their 2015 option on catcher Alex Avila.

Avila, 27, will earn $5.4 million next season.

He batted .218 in 127 games in 2014 with 11 home runs. His average has dropped each of the past three seasons.
