Texas Longhorns quarterback David Ash was injured again in the season opener and will miss this week’s game against BYU.

Head coach Charlie Strong told reporters Monday that Ash took a hit during the first quarter of Texas’ 38-7 win over North Texas, and appeared fine. Texas trainers then received a call from Ash in the middle of the night. Strong said that some of the post-game symptoms Ash exhibited were headaches and dizziness.

Ash missed 10 games last season with concussion symptoms.

“We would never jeopardize a young man’s health for the good of the football team,” Strong said.

Sophomore Tyrone Swoopes will start for Texas (1-0) against BYU (1-0) on Saturday. Swoopes, who was beat out by Ash in camp, played six games as a true freshman in 2013, completing five passes for 26 yards and running 20 times for 79 yards.
