Penalties for hits on Texans quarterback Matt Schaub on consecutive plays cost the Denver Broncos some yardage and apparently cost Schaub a piece of his ear.

Von Miller was called for a roughing-the-passer penalty in the third quarter of Sunday’s game, and Broncos linebacker Joe Mays was penalized on the next play when a direct blow to Schaub’s helmet caused Schaub’s helmet to fly off.

“I felt fine. I lost a piece of my ear,” Schaub told the Houston Chronicle.

Schaub missed just one play and returned to lead the Texans to a 31-25 victory over the Broncos.
