Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak announced Sunday that rookie kicker Randy Bullock will be placed on injured reserve and is out for the entire season because of a torn muscle in his groin area.
It means Shayne Graham, 34, will be the Texans’ kicker. He’s 5-for-5 on field goals during the preseason, including boots from 48, 49 and 53 yards.
“It had been bothering him for a couple of weeks and he continued to kick through it,” Kubiak said of Bullock’s injury. “He’s very tough and he kicked very well last night. He came in here today, black and blue. We ran some tests on him and so it’s a sad situation. He’s going to kick in this league. He’s going to kick a long time. He’s going to go on IR this year and thankfully we’ve got Shayne (Graham), who has done a hell of a job, too. He was pushing him neck and neck to kick for us. It’s a tough deal.”
Kubiak said the injury may have been the reason Bullock was lacking some distance on his kickoffs.
