The Phoenix Suns have shown interest in a possible trade to acquire power forward Pau Gasol from the Los Angeles Lakers, ESPN.com reported Sunday.
It is one of the option being considered by the Suns, who are looking to add an established star player to aid their unexpected run for a playoff berth.
The Suns have $5.6 million in available salary-cap space.
One possibility, as noted by ESPN.com, is swapping the expiring contract of injured Suns center Emeka Okafor for Gasol. Okafor’s $14.5 million salary this season falls short or Gasol’s $19.3 million.
Gasol is averaging 19.2 points and 11.5 rebounds this season.
