Stephen Strasburg had a painful learning experience Tuesday.
The Phillies homered twice, stole three bases and got eight hits, all in just four innings, all off of Strasburg, a big reason they scored an easy 8-0 victory over the Nationals.
Strasburg was clearly frustrated during the game, something manager Davey Johnson talked about afterward.
Johnson basically said that sometimes it’s just not going to be your day and that Strasburg will learn how to make adjustments in games when things aren’t going well.
It just comes with time.
“Obviously, he didn’t have his best stuff and his location wasn’t real good,” Johnson said. “He was fighting himself, young pitcher, lost a little poise. It’s part of growing up.”
Strasburg said he had problems keeping the ball down. When it stayed up, the Phillies — who were very aggressive at the plate — hit the ball. And they hit it hard.
“I’ve just got to keep moving forward,” he said. “I’m just going to forget about it and make the adjustments.”
