Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jonathan Dwyer will start at the position Sunday in Baltimore, head coach Mike Tomlin announced.
Tomlin cited consistency and health as reasons that he chose Dwyer.
“He’s been consistently the most productive guy,” Tomlin told reporters. “I think we have a large enough body of work to be able to identify that at this point. Obviously, we’ve been working at less than ideal circumstances with the rotation and the shuffling of those guys due to health and lack of production. But over the course of the last several weeks, it’s obvious that he is healthy and he is the most productive of the group.”
The Steelers (6-5) trail the first-place Ravens (9-2) by three games.
Starter Rashard Mendenhall fumbled twice in a loss to the Cleveland Browns. Dwyer, Chris Rainey and Isaac Redman also fumbled, as part of an eight-turnover afternoon.
Dwyer leads the Steelers with 429 yards rushing in eight games.
In other news, Tomlin said wide receiver Antonio Brown is expected to play, and he’s encouraged by the progress of safety Troy Polamalu from a right calf injury.
