Spurs center Tim Duncan will miss the Spurs’ highly anticipated matchup with the Golden State Warriors on Monday because of knee soreness.
The 6-foot-11 Duncan, 39, sat out San Antonio’s win Thursday over the Phoenix Suns, and returned for Friday’s win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Duncan is averaging 8.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game in his 19th season.
“He rebounds, he plays defense, he blocks shots, he leads,” San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said earlier this season. “He makes everybody better. It’s the same stuff he always does, he just doesn’t score as many points.”
That has been evident since Duncan joined San Antonio as the first pick in the 1994 draft. The Spurs recorded 18 straight winning seasons and captured five league titles and 10 division titles in his career.
