Spring Scores: Fowler helps Cubs top White Sox

Dexter Fowler hit his second homer of the spring and reached base three times as a Chicago Cubs split squad defeated Chicago White Sox 9-2 on Saturday in Mesa, Ariz.

Jason Hammel pitched four scoreless innings for the Cubs, giving up two hits and no walks. Avisail Garcia homered for the White Sox.

Angels 9, Giants 5

Albert Pujols’ first home run in exhibition play was a two-run shot in the first inning off Jake Peavy to lead Los Angeles over a San Francisco split squad. Mac Wiliamson hit a two-run homer in the fifth for the Giants and pinch-hitter Todd Cunningham had a two-run single to give the Angels the lead.

Diamondbacks 9, Giants 5

Socrates Brito hit a two-run homer and an Arizona split squad beat a San Francisco split squad in Scottsdale, Ariz. Rickie Weeks had two hits for the Diamondbacks and Jarrett Parker had a run-scoring single and a home run for the Giants.

Brewers 7, Rockies 6

Domingo Santana was 2 for 3 with an RBI double and Colin Walsh had a two-run double in the fourth inning to help Milwaukee beat Colorado in Phoenix. Taylor Jungmann left after pitching three innings without allowing a hit before Nolan Arenado, who had three RBIs, and Trevor Story homered for the Rockies.

Tigers 3, Pirates 0

J.D. Martinez homered and Francisco Rodriguez pitching an inning of relief in his spring debut for Detroit against Pittsburgh in Lakeland, Fla.

Diamondbacks 3, Royals 0

Rubby De La Rosa pitched four scoreless innings and David Peralta hit his first home run of the spring, a two-run shot in a three-run first inning, to carry an Arizona split squad past Kansas City in Scottsdale, Ariz. Eric Hosmer had two hits for the Royals.

Orioles 8, Twins 1

Baltimore won for the first time this spring with help from Manny Machado’s two doubles and two-run homers from Audry Perez and Steve Tolleson against Minnesota in Sarasota, Fla.

Marlins 11, Red Sox 8

Derek Dietrich had a two-run double and Xavier Scruggs hit a three-run homer in a big third inning for Miami against Boston in Fort Myers, Fla. Koji Uehara gave up one run and three hits while facing five batters in his spring debut and Hanley Ramirez, Chris Young and Travis Shaw homered for the Red Sox.

Rangers 14, Athletics 5

Adrian Beltre homered and had four RBIs to lead Texas past Oakland in Surprise, Ariz. The A’s had five errors to boost their spring total to 20 but received homers from Stephen Vogt and Chad Pinder.

Phillies 8, Blue Jays 5

J.P. Arencibia and David Lough hit two-run homers, Nick Williams blasted a three-run homer and Obubel Herrera went 2 of 3 with an RBI to propel Philadelphia past Toronto in Clearwater, Fla.

Astros 4, Cardinals 3

Tommy Pham hit a tying home run in the ninth inning and a St. Louis split squad scored the winning run against Houston on a bases-loaded error in Jupiter, Fla. Danny Worth homered and added an RBI double against Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright and Mike Fiers pitched three scoreless innings for the Astros.

Rays 2, Yankees 1

New York’s Luis Severino and Tampa Bay’s Matt Moore pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings each in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Cardinals 14, Mets 9

Randal Grichuk and Brandon Moss each had two-run homers and four RBIs and combined for five hits as a St. Louis split squad handled New York in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Carson Kelly and Jacob Wilson added homers for the Cardinals and Kevin Plawecki hit a two-run shot for the Mets.

Padres 6, Indians 3

Jemile Weeks singled home two runs in San Diego’s three-run eighth inning and Andrew Cashner pitched three hitless innings against Cleveland in Peoria, Ariz. Danny Salazar pitched four scoreless innings and Jesus Aguilar homered for the Indians.
