Top prospect Miguel Sano was recalled from the minors to join the Minnesota Twins on Thursday.
Sano, 22, signed with the team in 2009 at the age of 16 as a shortstop, but moved to third base when he grew out of the middle infield body type. He is 6-4, 260 pounds and known for his prolific power. He returned this season from Tommy John surgery last March to hit 11 home runs in 210 plate appearances.
Sano, likely to primarily fill the designated hitter role with the Twins, had 35 total home runs in the minor leagues in 2013.
He is ranked a top-10 minor league prospect and replaces Kennys Vargas, who was optioned to Chattanooga.
