Georgia senior linebacker Tim Kimbrough has departed school and said he was forced to leave by new coach Kirby Smart.
Kimbrough said he will transfer to a Division II school so he won’t have to sit out the 2016 season.
“I didn’t have a choice to stay at Georgia,” Kimbrough said on his Twitter account.
Kimbrough apparently drew Smart’s ire after leaving practice on Tuesday when he wasn’t injured. Kimbrough didn’t attend practice on Wednesday and Smart told reporters he was on “a little leave of absence.”
Kimbrough, who had 67 tackles last season, was unhappy that he wasn’t running with the first team defense in practice sessions.
Kimbrough missed time during spring practices due to academic concerns. He was also suspended for last season’s TaxSlayer Bowl against Penn State due to undisclosed reasons.
