After winning a Super Bowl in his second NFL season, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is already thinking about life after football.
“I want to be an owner of a team one day, whether it’s baseball or football,” the two-time Pro Bowler told the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday during an interview. “Maybe even both.”
The 25-year-old Wilson quarterbacked the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl championship earlier this month. Asked if he would like to own the Seahawks in the future, Wilson said, “Maybe (owner Paul Allen) will pass it on to me one day. Who knows. Obviously, I love the city and the Seattle Seahawks mean a lot of me, yeah.”
The versatile athlete also has a strong interest in baseball. Wilson selected by the Texas Rangers in the Rule V draft in December. He previously played two seasons in the minor leagues and batted .229 after being picked in the fourth round of the amateur draft by the Colorado Rockies in 2010.
Wilson plans to visit the Rangers next week for several days during spring training.
“For me, I’d love to get around as many people as I can,” Wilson said. “Because at the end of the day, I want to learn as much as I can so that way, in my future — down the road after playing 20 years hopefully for the Seahawks — that I can do that.”
