The Los Angeles Lakers signed first-round draft picks D’Angelo Russell and Larry Nance Jr. to multiyear contracts on Friday.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Russell’s contract was worth $23 million, with a starting salary of $5.1 million in 2015-16 and is guaranteed the first two years with team options in the third and fourth years.
Nance’s contract is estimated at $5.9 million and also has the first two years guaranteed with years three and four as a team option.
Russell was the second overall pick in June who left Ohio State as the top freshman scorer in the country in 2014-15 at 19.3 points per game. He also averaged 5.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game for the Buckeyes in his only collegiate season.
The 6-foot-5 Russell’s college honors included first-team All-American, the Jerry West Award as the nation’s best shooting guard and Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
The 6-9 Nance Jr., the son of former NBA standout Larry Nance, spent four seasons at Wyoming and finished his career with 1,386 points and 807 rebounds. As a senior, he averaged 16.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots and was named the Mountain West co-Defensive Player of the Year.
