Rotation not to blame for Braves’ poor record

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Matt Wisler gave the Braves another solid start, but it failed to equate into a victory.

Although the Braves rallied with a two-run ninth off Kansas City closer Wade Davis to tie it, the Royals prevailed 4-2 in 13 innings with a Kendrys Morales walk-off two-run homer Sunday.

Wisler limited the Royals to two runs on eight hits in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked none.

“I am proud of the club,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “We battled. Wisler pitched great. The bullpen did a terrific job… We lose the game, but I think the club did one hell of a job.”

Wisler would have taken the loss if not for the ninth-inning rally off Davis. He left with the Braves trailing 2-0.

“We could have cashed in in the ninth today, but they came back and battled, took me off the hook for it,” Wisler said. “Guys played hard every day. We’re not going to quit and hopefully we can start turning these into Ws.”

While the Braves have the worst record in the majors, 9-27, the rotation should not be blamed. In the past 14 games, the Braves starters have a 2.85 ERA, allowing 28 earned runs in 88 1/3 innings.
