Rockies not getting ahead of themselves

PHILADELPHIA — The Colorado Rockies are playing good baseball, but they’re not getting ahead of themselves.

That’s because Clayton Kershaw and a four-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers awaits at Coors Field.

“It seems like we face Kershaw about every other week for six months,” Rockies manager Walt Weiss quipped after his team’s 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. “We’re used to seeing him, but that doesn’t mean we look forward to it.”

Maybe they will after their home run party at Citizens Bank Park.

Colorado smacked eight home runs in Philadelphia en route to a three-game sweep of the Phillies, as the long balls accounted for all but two of the Rockies’ 13 runs in the series.

Now, Colorado (22-26) has won seven of its last eight games.

“We’re just playing good ball right now,” third baseman Nolan Arenado said after hitting two home runs in the series, giving him five in his last seven games. “We’re pitching great, we’re driving in runs when we need to and we’ve had a lot of success doing that — doing the little things and that’s what we’re doing right now and it’s a lot of fun.”

And more fun could be on the way against the first-place Dodgers.

“We play in the division it seems like all year, so we face these guys a lot,” Weiss said of Los Angeles and its tough pitching. “It’ll be a challenge but we’ll be ready for them.”
