RHP Cruz signs minor-league contract with Phillies

Right-hander Juan Cruz has signed a minor-league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies that includes an invitation to spring training, CBSSports.com reported.

Cruz, 33, spent the 2012 season with Pittsburgh before the Pirates cut him in August. He worked 35 2/3 innings in 43 games as a reliever and posted a 1-2 record with a 2.78 ERA.

His 12-year career in the major leagues began with the Chicago Cubs in 2001 and has included stops in Atlanta, Oakland, Arizona, Kansas City, Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh.
